Contraindications

This overview lists medical contraindications for aesthetic treatments to ensure patient safety and provide legal protection for practitioners.


1. BOTULINUM TOXIN (Botox®) – Contraindications:

  • Pregnancy or Breastfeeding
  • Myasthenia gravis, Lambert-Eaton syndrome, or other neuromuscular disorders
  • Infections or skin conditions in the treatment area
  • Use of antibiotics containing aminoglycosides or muscle relaxants
  • Allergy or hypersensitivity to botulinum toxin type A or any of the product's ingredients
  • Blood clotting disorders or use of anticoagulants (e.g., Marcumar, NOACs)
  • Acute inflammation or febrile infections
  • Psychiatric disorders characterized by unrealistic expectations (e.g., body dysmorphic disorder)
  • Severe autoimmune diseases (relative contraindication—individual assessment required)

2. HYALURONIC ACID FILLERS – Contraindications:

  • Pregnancy or Breastfeeding
  • Acute or chronic infections in the treatment area (e.g., cold sores, acne)
  • Known allergy to hyaluronic acid or any ingredients in the product (e.g., lidocaine)
  • Active autoimmune diseases (relative contraindication)
  • Taking blood thinners (aspirin, Marcumar, heparin, etc.) – increased risk of hematoma
  • Previous treatment with permanent fillers or silicone in the treatment area
  • Inflammatory skin conditions or dermatoses (e.g., rosacea, eczema)
  • Immunosuppression, Chemotherapy
  • History of severe allergic reactions or anaphylaxis

3. SKIN BOOSTERS AND BIOSTIMULATORS – Contraindications:

  • Pregnancy or Breastfeeding
  • Acute skin infections, acne, and herpes simplex in the treatment area
  • Known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients (e.g., lidocaine, carrier gel)
  • Active or unstable autoimmune diseases (relative contraindication)
  • Use of anticoagulants or known coagulation disorders
  • A history of keloid formation or impaired wound healing
  • Immunotherapy, Cancer Treatment, Radiation
  • Impaired kidney or liver function with certain medications
  • Unrealistic expectations, severe psychiatric disorders

4. MEDICAL PEELS (e.g., retinol, fruit acid, or TCA peels) – Contraindications:

  • Pregnancy or Breastfeeding
  • Acute skin conditions in the treatment area (e.g., eczema, psoriasis, rosacea)
  • Herpes simplex (especially in cases of lip or perioral peeling) – consider prophylaxis if necessary
  • Open wounds, sunburn, skin injuries
  • Retinoid therapy in the past 6 months (e.g., isotretinoin)
  • Known hypersensitivity to ingredients (e.g., AHA, BHA, TCA)
  • Very dark skin types (Fitzpatrick V–VI) – Be aware of the risk of hyperpigmentation
  • Radiation therapy or laser treatment in the treatment area within the last few weeks
  • Immunosuppression, severe systemic diseases
